Cloud computing offers various service models to suit different levels of control, responsibility, and convenience. The three primary models are Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS). Each model provides a different balance of flexibility, control, and administrative effort.
Software as a Service (SaaS)
SaaS delivers fully functional applications over the Internet. Users access the service through web browsers, and the cloud provider handles everything behind the scenes.
- The provider manages the full stack, including hardware, operating systems, application logic, and updates.
- Customers interact with the software and are mainly responsible for managing user data, accounts, and access permissions.
- Examples of SaaS include Microsoft 365, Salesforce, and Google Workspace.
This model offers the lowest administrative effort and is well suited for businesses seeking ready-to-use software solutions without managing infrastructure.
