It is currently in Beta, which means that you can take it, but you won’t need know your score until it is Generally Available. What is the Microsoft AB-730 exam?
The AB-730 exam, also known as the Microsoft “AI Business Professional” exam, validates your knowledge of generative AI tools in Microsoft 365, including Copilot, Researcher and Analyst. You should also be using AI in your work, but you don’t need to know how to build AI apps or how to write code.
Who should take the AB-730 exam?
This exam is for you if you are using Microsoft’s AI tools, and want to get deeper with understand why its Generative AI works.
- You should already know how to use Microsoft 365 apps, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Teams.
- You are familiar with common business processes, such as creating presentations, images and documents.
- For generative AI tools like Microsoft Copilot, you will need to draft emails, summarize documents and generate images and text.
What is tested in the AB-730 exam?
The skills which are tested in the AB-730 exam are:
- Understand generative AI fundamentals
- Manage prompts and conversations by using AI
- Draft and analyze business content by using AI
It should be noted that there is greater weight on “Managing prompts and conversations” in the number of points available than the other two skills.

The “AB” at the beginning of the exam name apparently stands for AI and Business Applications.
