AZ-900: The Azure Pricing Calculator

When planning your move to Azure, it’s vital to have a clear understanding of the potential costs involved. That’s where the Azure Pricing Calculator comes in. It’s a free, web-based tool that provides an indicative estimate of how much your Azure services might cost, broken down by component and usage.

Unlike the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Calculator, which offers a general comparison of on-premises versus Azure costs, the Pricing Calculator focuses specifically on Azure-based services.

What can you configure?

The Pricing Calculator allows you to customise your estimate based on:

  • Region – datacenters around the world have different pricing.
  • Operating System – choose between Windows, Linux, or custom options.
  • Tier – select from standard or premium, depending on performance needs.
  • Number of hours – input how long resources will run each month.
  • Discounts – apply Azure Hybrid Benefit, reserved pricing, or custom discounts.

What can you do with your estimate?

Once you’ve configured your services, you can:

  • Export it to Excel for detailed analysis,
  • Save it to revisit or revise later, and
  • Share the estimate with others, such as finance teams or stakeholders.

This makes it a great tool for both technical and business planning when forecasting Azure spend.
