What is the Microsoft AI-901 exam?
The AI-901 Exam, also known as as the Microsoft “Azure AI Fundamentals” exam, is a fundamental level exam which validates your knowledge about building modern AI apps and agents in Microsoft Foundry (previously known as Azure AI Foundry).
Who should take the AI-901 exam?
This exam is for both technical and non-technical people. As a fundamental exam, you don’t need to know HOW to do this, but only WHAT is possible.
It may also be good for American students to take, as it is possible that they may get ACE college credit for passing this certification.
What do you need to know for the AI-901 exam?
You will need to know about:
- Generative AI And agents, using Large Language Models (LLMs),
- Natural Language Processing concepts,
- AI Speech, including speech recognition and synthesis,
- Computer vision tasks, including image processing and image and video generation,
- Information extraction, including Optical character recognition (OCR) and field extraction, from documents, audio and video
- Text extraction and analysis.

Microsoft has also announced 3 new exams:
- AI-300: Machine Learning Operations (MLOps) Engineer Associate
- AI-103: Azure AI App and Agent Developer Associate
- AI-200: Azure AI Cloud Developer Associate
- DP-800: SQL AI Developer Associate
- SC-800: Cloud and AI Security Engineer Associate
